About the Author
A native Virginian, Gray was born in Williamsburg
as his father graduated from William and Mary ( W & M )
and his mother graduated from nursing school at
Richmond Professional Institute
( a division of Virginia Commonwealth University ).
~ Athletics ~ At Douglas Freeman High School Gray was a 3-sport athlete earning All-District,
All-Metro, All-Regional, All-State honors in multiple sports, inducted into the DSF Athletic
Hall of Fame in 2012. At W& M, Gray was a four-year starter on both the football and baseball
teams, earning 8 varsity letters, "suiting up" to represent the Tribe in over 180+ incollegiate games.
~ Business ~ Following college graduation Gray began a 25+ year executive career at Procter and
Gamble. In 2005, he founded Three Strands Management, a full-service consultant firm providing
a broad range of services to start-ups, mid-size and Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. and globally.
~ Community/Public Service ~ In the spring of 1983 gray was elected to his first public service office, Senior class president of DSF High School, Class of 1974 ( a lifetime assignment as he still serves his role today - 50th Reunion next up in 2024). His executive career roles took him away from Virginia from 1980 through 1996. On his return, he coached at Henrico Junior High School level, and at Tuckahoe Little League. Gray also found time to work with at risk children through the LIGHT (Light, Insights, Gifts, Habits, and Talents) program at Swansboro Elementary School, located in the heart of the City of Richmond. In 2005, he began working with the Monacan Native American tribe as they pursued economic independence and federal rocognition. Federally recognized in 2018, Gray continures to serve the Monacan Nation.
~ Family ~ Gray and his wife Cynthia live in Richmond and have four grown children:
a daughter, Keysin, an interior designer in Los Angeles, and three sons, Nelson, a finance executive and musician, Connor a business owner, artist, and musician, and Trenor, a graphic designer, artist, & musician - all living in Denver.
